Indigo Embrace

On a recent trip to Mexico City, we walked through the gardens of La Casa Azul, where the cobalt walls do more than hold color; they hold the space. The blue itself carries real weight in Mexican tradition, tied to protection and heritage—but as our guide told it, Frida Kahlo also surrounded herself in the color as a way of holding Diego close, a kind of embrace. Whatever the full truth, the result is a sanctuary in a life often defined by real physical pain. During the long stretches she was confined to her bed, the doors could be flung open to the grounds, offering an escape.

There's a strength in her stillness—a reminder that resilience can be about endurance as well as the ability to transform the weight of her life's circumstances into something creative and lasting. Sitting there today, we felt held by the hue.
